PROFILE #6: Trading Facilities and Data Centre
for Institutional Investment Dealer:

THE CLIENT:
A Canadian institutional equities investment dealer listed on the Toronto and Montreal stock exchanges. Starting up new operations in Toronto and Montreal, and specializing in trading of equities issues, corporate finance, investment research and back-office clearing operations.

THE ENVIRONMENT:
The network and hardware consisted of Microsoft NT server 3.51 running on Compaq Proliant 4500 servers with fault-tolerant RAID storage arrays. Workstations were Compaq Windows 95 Pentium desktops.

Applications supported: Solomon Accounting for NT running BTI scaleable SQL Server for NT, Reuters and Star Data quotation systems, Microsoft Office 97, NT Remote Access Service and Dial Up Networking, Winfax Pro, Microsoft Mail, Internet Access and an IBM SNA gateway interfacing to ISM and CDS.

THE ROLE:
METRIQ Inc. was contracted as Project Management to direct and oversee all technical aspects of the design and relocation of the equities trading and back-office facilities at their Toronto and Montréal locations. This included the installation of a new local area network, NT server and 100 workstations. METRIQ also managed the implementation of telecommunications, including data and voice communications.
